Personal Statement

Since the age of three, I have always loved to perform and never in my wildest dreams did I realize that the art of visual storytelling would become my life. From performing in school productions to filming national television commercials, my love for theatre and film extended far beyond being a performer. Throughout my dance training I was given opportunities to choreograph local community theatre productions as well as high school productions. As I trained in college as a director, I began to explore filmmaking and directing for the stage. I fell in love with casting and anything involved with being creative. While at UCLA, I began to student teach and fell in love with education and being able to inspire others the way I was inspired by the arts at such a young age.
I chose to enter educational theatre because I love to learn new and innovating things and I’m extremely passionate about sharing my knowledge and years of industry training with others. Yet, one of the most beneficial parts of teaching educational theatre is that there is still room for my self-expression and an outlet to continue sharing stories with audiences through directing theatrical productions. I have figured out a way to also incorporate film into my productions so I can fulfill that creative need as well.

What is extremely special about being a theatre educator is that I can play a significant role in guiding students’ personal growth and development as well as their academic achievements. Through theatre students can gain confidence within themselves and learn practical problem-solving skills that they can use and apply to any future job. My goal is to always encourage personal growth in my students and hopefully I can guide the next generation of young leaders and performers to go out and make a difference in the world.

Theatre allows students to have fun while learning, it can teach students the value of collaboration and cooperation because theatre is a team effort. I strive as an educator to create a safe, supportive environment where students can creatively express themselves and learn more about themselves and others.

Strategic Plan for the Arts

In January of 2020, a group of over 30 stakeholders from across Riverside County came together to work on a Strategic Plan for Arts Education to guide the efforts of the Riverside County Office of Education for the next five years.

The plan below summarizes the county's vision to promote and expand the arts in three strategic directions.

Allyson Boylan was one of those stakeholders.
